Britain's Ellen MacArthur headed home to a hero's welcome Tuesday after breaking the record for sailing solo round the world.
The 28-year old crossed the finish line at 2230 GMT on Monday, beating the previous mark set by Frenchman Francis Joyon of 72 days, 22 hours , 54 minutes and 22 seconds.
MacArthur's exact time will be verified by the World Sailing Speed Records Council, whose officials were at the finish.
