As discussed, we have decided to separate from Youri Zoon. Youri is a dear friend of Slingshot and we are proud to have built the kite that built the man.
As we all know, the brand bidding on Youri’s contract has created a “once in a lifetime” money opportunity for Youri. Despite his wanting to stay with us for less money, his other offer was so large that we couldn’t find logical reasons to justify an investment of that size, especially when taking into consideration that our brand’s image and products are stronger then ever.
While we appreciate all that Youri has done for us, we also need to be mindful that an opportunity like this rarely comes along for such a young man. As his friends and mentors, we feel it is important for him to seize this opportunity while he is on top.
The fact is good products makes good riders! Slingshot will not react to or promote the issue in any way. Actions speak louder than words. And the fact is good products makes good riders and Youri’s decision to continue to ride the RPM for the rest of the PKRA contests is the proof of that! We trust that kiteboarders are smart enough to determine truth from fiction.
As some of you see this as bad news, we at Slingshot see this as a good friend taking advantage of his hard work. We know that the future is as bright as it has ever has been for Slingshot.

Slingshot Sports has separated with Ruben Lenten. According to Slingshot Team Manager Mauricio Abreu, “Slingshot has always been a brand that builds both leaders and champions, but we don’t buy them. It is an end of a great era - a time when our products and Rubens riding literally took the sport to the highest level possible today. We are now looking forward to kiteboarding’s next era of champions to take the sport beyond what we are currently capable of.”
