Snow Overview - Austria (snow news updated 11 december 2006)
This weekend saw snow arrive at most Austrian resorts helping to cover the previously green slopes in a fresh blanket of snow. Hintertux (30/160cm) saw the most snow with over 80cm falling over the weekend. Solden (20/80cm) received 50cm in total meaning it could double the number of lifts in operation. It now has 20 out of 35 lifts open. Lech (20/30cm), Zurs (20/30cm) and Saalbach (5/30cm) all received 30cm of snow meaning they were able to open over the weekend. St Anton (15/55cm) also opened at the weekend, helped by 15cm of snow falling which improved the pistes that were previously covered with man-made snow. Gargellen (20/50cm), Ischgl (5/50cm), Pitztal (110/140cm) and Wagrain (0/50cm) all received over 15cm of snow on Sunday night. Despite no new snow, Schladming (0/50cm) managed to open skiing operations on the Planai and Hochwurzen mountains, meaning all 4 mountains in the Schladming area are open along with the Dachstein Glacier. However, despite the new snow, Filzmoos, Fiss, Serfaus and Zell am Ziller remain closed awaiting more snow.
