Snow Kite Grand Prix 2011 Neringa: youngest participant kicks the professionals
Last weekend, 26-27th of February, second (out of three) stage of snow kite grand prix 2011 took part in Nida. Youngest participant, Domantas Jusionis (14 years)(Flysurfer) has won the Jibbing discipline, overcomming Artūras Gudauskas (2nd)(Cabrinha) and Artūras Morauskas (3rd)(Best).
According to D. Jusionis, he is very happy to win this discipline: “I’ve managed to land the tricks which I did not expect to land. And the successful spin on the ramp with the handle-pass was the main argument to overcome the competitors.”
Almost 40 snowkiters took part in 4 disciplines. Course race winner is Oskars Brivkalns (31)(Naish) from Latvia, overtaking his permanent competitors – A. Morauskas and A. Gudauskas. However, A. Gudauskas with Cabrinha won in freestyle discipline (2nd) – O. Brivkalns (Naish), 3rd – Dominykas Smilga (22)(North).
Marathon race results are: 1st – O. Brivkalns (Naish), 2nd – A. Morauskas (Best), 3rd – Eduardas Silva (Naish).
E. Silva, Snow kite grand prix 2011 organizer, says, Jibbing mostly depends on public attention.
Because it brings the most spectacular view, and athletes have to do their best to make it work. Participants have 6 minutes to show their skills, while jumping off the ice using kickers and obstacles demonstrating acrobatic elements. The requisites for the discipline include sliding on the A ramp, 6 meters long pipe-rail and special trick table. Judges estimate trajectory, technique, used to perform the trick, control of the snowboard and air acrobatics with the help of the kite.
The organizers, “Extreme-sports.lt” and “Big Adventure” for the first time went for online webcast – whole 2 days the video was streamed online, and it was watched by over 400 viewers. “Also, we are very happy for the help of Neringa city council. Our cooperation went really smooth, and we are sure we’ll come back here in summer. We are getting more and more popular. I mean, the sport itself as well as city of Neringa”.
The main fight was in course race – there were even 6 runs, says “Extreme-sports” representative and the main judge Robertas Gradauskas. “Ice was covered by thin layer of snow, which made the hard conditions to perform and each falling means big pain”.
R. Gradauskas added, the weekend was successful, participants where enthusiastic. A. Morauskas, celebrating his 10 years in kiting, won three prizes, even though several days ago he had broke several ribs.
O. Brivkalns (Naish), guest from Latvia, is the strongest participant in the first two stages of championship - he won 5 out of 6 disciplines. In the third - Filal stage there will be a harsh fight among O. Brivkalns, A. Morauskas and A. Gudauskas again.
Third and the last stage of championship will take part in nearest future. Exact date will depend on weather and wind conditions. In the first stage 40 participants took part as well as in the second.
Last year, overall, 70 participants were registered in the championship. During 2010, the records of speed (snowboard and skis) where broken.
